Ted Casablanca’s Addiction Mania: E Online is Hardly News

Here at 12 Steppin, we know that addiction is a serious problem that affects millions of people world wide. However, we also know there is always time to mix fun with facts and there are certainly times when we will show the lighter side of the addiction world as it pertains to outrageous celebrity stories, television shows and more.

But there comes a point when news sources, online or otherwise, must answer to the credibility given to them. And maybe this is a problem with Google News rather than EOnline.com, but even in a humble blog like ours, we would certainly demand more effort in our posts than the last installation of Ted Casablanca’s “The Awful Truth” (which we think should be renamed, “The Awful Blog”).

The “article” titled “Addiction Mania! Which Celebrity Needs Help the Most?” not only lacks the effort to compose more than three sentences for the post, but it also appears in Google News, posing as a real news article. In fact, the post does little more than call Lindsay Lohan a lesbian; big news.

Angels Pitcher Nick Adenhart Killed in Car Accident

Angels Rookie Pitcher, Nick Adenhart, was killed in a car accident earlier this morning. Nick Adenhart, 22, was one of the top prospects for the Angels and was killed just after midnight in Fullerton, California. Reports say that a minivan ran a red light and crashed into Nick Adenhart’s car.

Adenhart had just finished throwing six scoreless innings against the A’s the day before. There is suspicion that alcohol was involved in the hit and run crash that took Adenhart’s life.

Joba Chamberlain commented on Nick Adenhart’s tragic death, saying, “It sounds like he was just driving home after the game, and now he’s not coming to the ballpark the next day. You can’t take anything for granted, ever.” Joba Chamberlain is currently in the spotlight for DUI charges.

Although details are still sketchy, the alleged hit and run suspect who was driving the mini van which struck Nick Adenhart’s vehicle is now in custody.

Unfortunately, Farrah Fawcett has been all over the news lately because of her deteriorating health. However, Fawcett’s son, Redmond O’Neal, is also in the news after police say they found him carrying narcotics near a jail in Castaic, California.

Redmond was driving with a friend to see an inmate at the Pitchess Detention Center South in California. Redmond admitted to being in possession of narcotics when they were pulled aside at a routine check point on the way to the jail.

Redmond is now being held on $25,000 bail pending a hearing later today. He was charged with possession of narcotics and bringing narcotics to a jail.

Farrah Fawcett, who has been in the spotlight lately due to her poor condition as a result from her 3-year battle with cancer, has not commented on her son. Remond O’Neil and his father, Ryan O’Neil, were both arrested in a drug bust in 2008.

President Barack Obama Addresses Marijuana Legalization

In a test run of Barack Obama’s new “Open for Questions” virtual town hall meeting,  the president addressed the issue of legalizing marijuana. Several thousands questions were uploaded to the White House website for the first “Open for Questions” virtual town hall meeting and over 3,606,000 people voted for the questions they wanted president Obama to address during the meeting.

Barack Obama briefly commented on whether or not legalizing marijuana would help the economy or helpl create jobs. Here is just a short part of the transcript from Barack Obama’s first virtual town hall meeting:

THE PRESIDENT: “Three point five million people voted. I have to say that there was one question that was voted on that ranked fairly high and that was whether legalizing marijuana would improve the economy – (laughter) – and job creation. And I don’t know what this says about the online audience – (laughter) – but I just want – I don’t want people to think that – this was a fairly popular question; we want to make sure that it was answered. The answer is, no, I don’t think that is a good strategy – (laughter) – to grow our economy. (Applause.)”

The Ana Nicole Smith Drug Conspiracy

Will it ever end? Even during the time of her hit reality television show on E, Anna Nicole Smith was surrounded by rumors of illicit and prescription drug abuse. Her reputation was fueled by her erratic behavior, slurred speech and often dazed look.

Now, after an investigation that took over two years and involved Attorney General Jerry Brown, insurance officials, medical officials and the Drug Enforcement Administration, evidence is revealing that the behavior towards prescription drugs in the celebrity world is just as troubling and comparable to the illicit drug situation in poor neighborhoods.

Anna Nicole Smith died of an overdose of prescription drugs in 2007, at the age of 39. Howard K. Stern, psychiatrist Khristine Eroshevich and gerontologist Sandeep Kapoor have all been charge with several counts in relation to Anna Nicole Smith’s death, including conspiracy to provide an addict with medication.
